They say that every pregnancy is different and I've decided that what they mean by that is that with each new pregnancy that you have, you add some new crap that you didn't have last time. For this pregnancy I had the nausea, the swollen ankles, the limbs popping out of joint, the horrible side sleeping, and just the overall being hugeness from the last pregnancy, but I've added some new wonders to my repertoire.
The swelling of my ankles came much, much sooner than last time, plus I've decided to be swollen in multiple areas of my body. The veins on my body have also decided to really show themselves. As a result, I have an intersecting, blue freeway system that covers my massive belly, goes up my chest, and makes my arms every phlebotomist's dream. I literally had a nurse tell me on Friday, when I went with my mom to her appointment, that she'd love to try sticking my veins. I should have told her to go ahead as long as she could put me to sleep until the baby came.
The newest fun-ness that I've decided to add to this pregnancy is my favorite so far, and the reason why I'm writing this post at 12:48 in the morning. On Friday evening my back and right shoulder began to hurt a little bit and it made me cranky. I determined that it was caused by the horrible side sleeping, but since I have no other choice but to sleep on my side I went to sleep on my side again.
Saturday morning wasn't too bad, at first, but by the time I got to my regular, preggo doctor appointment I was really starting to feel it. I asked my doctor what I could do about it and was told that I could take some pain medication (tylenol) and get a masseuse or a chiropractor to try and work out the knots.
By the time I got home from my doctor's appointment I hurt so bad that I couldn't lift my little boy out of the car and was pretty much bawling. Luckily my little monkey managed okay without me and was able to climb out by himself. I also discovered, to my shock and horror, that I didn't have a masseuse at my beck-and-call so I would have to try tylenol and wait for my husband to get home from work.
Once Mr. Tigger got home from work and started trying to rub the knots from my shoulder and back he discovered that it most likely wasn't muscle related at all and that somehow I've pinched a nerve or two, which means there's not much I can do about it - lucky for me. And, extra lucky for me the pain is most excruciating when I try to sleep on my side as if I didn't already have trouble sleeping.
So, at this point in the morning I am waiting for the tylenol that I just took to kick in and planning on going to try and sleep in my new bed - the recliner in our living room. Hopefully I'll be able to sleep in an overgrown chair and hopefully this pain will go away in a day or two and hopefully the dog won't try to lick my face all night - hopefully.
